no excuse
Every day we receive an average of 18 animals – lost, hurt or homeless. We also carefully respond to dozens of reported concerns for animals around the island. We work hard to rescue the animals and educate people on basic animal care and protection laws. Our services for the community are many – pet ID, spay/neuter surgeries, dog training classes, youth education, hosting hunter licensing courses, and intervention outreach in the neighborhoods to protect animals from suffering. But most basic is our service to accept any animal in need because they can’t be cared for adequately.
Our whole community is saddened deeply when our help is ignored and animals suffer or die because no one cares. There is no excuse.
The recent tragedy in Poipu is one in a series of dog neglect cases we have investigated where large numbers of dogs have suffered horribly and we have charged irresponsible residents with animal cruelty. Most charges have resulted in jail time, fines and relinquishing ownership of their dogs. With each case, we hope the community learns of our services and takes action to prevent another animal from suffering from neglect.
It begins with each of us. If you have too many animals and can’t provide for them, please call us. 632-0610 We are here to help.

Dogs on Path Update
We are six months into the trial period allowing responsible dog walking on a limited section of the coastal multi-use path. We were doing pretty well until the past couple of weeks. We are receiving reports that dog owners are allowing their dogs to run off leash and not picking up manure in the recently opened section from Kealia to Donkey’s Beach where dogs are NOT allowed. PLEASE do NOT walk your dogs in this section and PLEASE always keep your dog on a leash at all times. It is up to you NOW to insure a more dog friendly Kauai. LEASH IT, CLEAN IT, OR LOSE IT – PLEASE JUST DO IT!
